Selva Marina Country Club is all set for another great weekend of tennis fun. Players from Georgia and all over Florida will converge on Selva Marina April 13-15 for one of the biggest USTA tournaments in the state. Tournament Divisions consist of singles, doubles, and mixed doubles in Open, 35,45, 55, 65, and 75-year-old age divisions. The tournament also offers a B and C divisions for Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed doubles. There is literally a division for everyone, and in a recent interview Tournament Director REB Phillips said, “I just want this to be a fun event for everyone involved…from the very best player in the tournament to the newest player…I want everyone to have a lot of tennis and a lot of fun.”
With that in mind the tournament offers consolation in every draw and depending on draw size might offer a non-elimination format in the B and C divisions.
Other high lights include t-shirts and prizes, a player reception Friday night, lunch on Saturday, and a Beer Garden on Sunday to compliment the Men and Women’s Open singles and doubles finals. “Because the tournament offers cash prizes in the Open singles and doubles for both the men and women there is usually quite a strong draw. The tennis is high level and fun to watch,” said Ron Lague Director of Tennis. “This is one of Selva Tennis’s biggest weekends of the year. We think it is really important for a private club to have an annual COMMUNITY TENNIS PARTY. We roll out the red carpet for the players and try to make it special for everyone.”
It is certainly Selva Marina Country Club’s hope that this continues to become one Jacksonville’s top adult events.
