Jacksonville, Florida, U.S.A. -The First Coast Tennis Foundation (FCTF) announced today a women's pre-qualifying tournament, the Ponte Vedra Beach Wildcard Challenge, to be held March 14-15 at the Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

A combination of professional players, local women and upcoming college and junior players will compete in the two-day pre-qualifying tournament, with the winner to receive a wildcard to compete in The MPS Group Championships qualifying, held the weekend prior to the April 6-12 Sony Ericsson WTA Tour event at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

"We feel fortunate to have a world-class Sony Ericsson WTA Tour event here in our community and we want to be involved and help as much as we can. The Challenge will give a preview of the upcoming event," says Challenge Tournament Director and First Coast Tennis Foundation Vice-President Philippe Dore.

The unique format for the event will be round robin, with two groups of four players. Sponsorship information for the event is available by contacting Toy Tingsombutyout at (904) 338-8713 or e-mailing FCtennis@yahoo.com.

The MPS Group Championships, formerly held in Amelia Island, is a $220,000 Sony Ericsson WTA Tour event. Last year Maria Sharapova captured the championship, her career-first title on clay courts.
