FCTF Wheelchair: Heath & Mathews Bring Home Trophies
Congratulations to James Heath and Harold Matthews on bringing home trophies as representatives of the First Coast Tennis Foundation and Brooks Wheelchair Tennis League at the Florida Open international Tennis Tournament on Memorial Day weekend. A total of 176 players represented 22 countries in the largest wheelchair only event. The #1 women's and men's players in the world were in attendance. It was an experience to watch as they successfully defended their titles. For you regular tennis players, look for the toss on the serve, eye on the ball, preparatory posture and follow-through on all shots. There were many incredible players in the quad division, playing in both power and manual chairs, with and without the racquet taped to their hands. One player retrieves and tosses the ball with his feet. Everyone, including our superstars, James and Harold ,demonstrated incredible determination, commitment, passion, good sportsmanship and the desire to have fun, all of which is evident in their facial expressions in the photos. If you have never given tennis a try, come on out on Monday evenings, 4-6, at the UNF Tennis Center. No experience or equipment is needed.
